Is the fuel pump on a Toyota 22 r-e pickup supposed to only run when the starter is cranking?

I have changed the fuel pump and checked that there is fire going into injectors. I have also changed plugs, wires and fuses and it will run when gas is poured into carbuerator but truck still won't start. Any ideas? Is the fuel pump on a Toyota 22 r-e pickup supposed to only run when the starter is cranking?First of all, 22RE is fuel injected. 22R is carbed. Which one do you have??? If it is EFI (22RE), the fuel pump will only turn on for a few seconds when the key is turned on, then when you crank it and it starts it will stay running. Keep in mind, the fuel pump will NOT turn on if there is never adequate oil pressure, so also check your oil level.

If it is carbed (22R), the fuel pump only runs when the engine is spinning at any speed because it is run by the motor.

Hope this helps.

No....

The fuel pump runs all the time. It's what transfers fuel to your engine. So if it's off, no fuel is going anywhere.

I mostly agree with nn2004. I would however check the plugs to see if they're getting wet. Did you change the fuel pump yourself? When you turn the key on, you should have a buddy listening for the fuel pump and see if they can hear the pump running for a few seconds. Then it will shut off. You might have left out a step if this isn't happening/

Why is "traction engaged" displayed on my 1993 Cadillac Fleetwood?

It's a 1993 Fleetwood brougham. I recently changed my fuel injector and soon after doing so, the %26quot;traction engaged%26quot; light came off. The pressure now builds against my gas pedal to where it pushes back whenever I press it.

It's gotten to a point where I can't accelerate past 30mph without the gas pedal completely pushing my foot back. Please tell me how I can fix this and/or what it means. Thanks! Why is %26quot;traction engaged%26quot; displayed on my 1993 Cadillac Fleetwood?Sounds like the traction control system is engaging and slowing your vehicle down for you. Usually it's only supposed to do this when you're in low traction conditions, gravel, mud, snow, etc (it's an earlier/less sophisticated version of Stabilitrak in newer GM vehicles).

It looks like yours is malfunctioning and engaging all the time. Not sure why it would do it after you changed a fuel injector. You might want to take it to the dealer or a local shop to have it looked at. Could be bad speed sensors or bad computer.

Good Luck!

I think my fuel injectors need cleaning or replaced, how can I tell without seeing a mechanic?

I have a 99 Chevy Z-71 PU with a V-8. It spits/sputters at times. But when pulling a loaded trailer with about 3,500 lbs., it runs fine. The truck has 90,000 miles and is maintained. To my knowledge has never had a tune-up. All I've ever done is changed the oil, filter, air %26amp; fuel filter. Is there a simple test I can do myself? I don't mind going to a mechanic but if it's a simple fix, I really need to do it myself.I think my fuel injectors need cleaning or replaced, how can I tell without seeing a mechanic?you know people are here to help looks like someone that has been turning a wrench for 46 years would give better advice ..but there is a difference in turning a wrench and being a mechanic .. just get you some injector cleaner the best one on the market is made by lucas it will clean the injectors you wont need to replace them they are not old enough to be replaced you will know when they get that bad beleive me you should tune it up with plugs wires distributor cap and rotor button if the injectors are dirty it will be a good idea to change the o2 sensor as well all the carbon will build up on it from injectors and you will need to replace it anyway
I think my fuel injectors need cleaning or replaced, how can I tell without seeing a mechanic?
buy a crystal ball....or do what everybody else does and see a mechanic...unless you are willing to start your training as a auto tech then by all means, start guessing, but remember all those wrong parts you bought and swapped is education money.
I think my fuel injectors need cleaning or replaced, how can I tell without seeing a mechanic?
You should be using some injector cleaner every 3-9 months at least, but Lucas oil products makes an injector cleaner that comes in a32 oz. bottle and only uses about 3 oz. per tank that I used after I had neglected to clean mine for WAY too long and was impressed after just a few miles===if you can find it you should try it.
You need a 90,000 mile service!! Change the plugs, the fuel filter, the transmission fluid, coolant, maybe the wires if needed. Look in the book, it will tell you everything you need to do. If you go to a dealer or mechanic, they will get you for a few hundred dollars. If you are a do-it-yourselfer, you can save ALOT of money. Put some Redline Fuel System Cleaner in it. But, if you ignore it, it will die on you.
Your truck is probably misfiring because of inacurate timing. If your truck only has dirty injectors, just try using injector cleaner. don't get the cheap brand from the gas station. Go to an auto parts store and buy it. It should clean your injectors. If not, you can replace your injectors
After 90,000 miles I would say you should run to a auto parts store and get some stuff called Seafoam it will clean out more than just your injectors, and use it more than every 90,000 miles.
At 90,000 km I,d put a set of plugs in it , Have you changed the fuel filter? Drive-ability issues are usually best dealt with by a reputable mechanic. Does the truck fire any check engine light when the truck sputters. Don,t just throw parts at the truck hoping you hit the problem , although I would still put plugs in it, and clean the throttle body , change the fuel filter and put a good quality injection system cleaner through the fuel system.
its your fuel injector.. call my dad he fixes everything! He great

  • Why am I hearing metal bang around in my intake?

I recently changed my fuel injector on my 96 cavalier....right after I changed it, I noticed metal banging around in what I think could be the intake. My car would crank and run briefly, after it ran a little bit the metal would start, then it would shut off. Now it doesnt wanna crank at all, very strangeWhy am I hearing metal bang around in my intake?Your valve train meaning cam-lobes and or worn valves may cause this %26quot;knock%26quot; in the engine. Lack of oil and or cheap fuel can be the blame. Also, if you have the 2.4 they are known for this problem. Most came standard with the 2.2. Also timing is effected causing engine loping, stalling and or surging.
Why am I hearing metal bang around in my intake?
Sounds like it's pinging. You are running very lean so maybe you messed up the injector swap. Why did you have to change it in the first place? Unless you dropped a screw in there or something, I don't see how you'd hear anything %26quot;banging%26quot; around in there anyway. Banging is a big noise in my book. Did you mean clinking? Sounds more like the timing chain/belt has jumped.
Why am I hearing metal bang around in my intake?
That is never a good sign!

That it won't crank is very discouraging. Broken engine discouraging.

Remove the intake manifold and look for damage from a screw or part of an injector that is where it does not belong. if you see damage it is probably time to call a mechanic. If not try charging your battery and cranking the engine again. You could get lucky.

    :::::Fuel Injectors::::?

typically how long should it take a %26quot;good%26quot; auto shop to change 8 fuel injectors? ...how long would it take your shop to do the job?:::::Fuel Injectors::::?How are you sure its injectors? Would seem to be other issues, like a fuel filter and other electronic control devices.
    :::::Fuel Injectors::::?
Depends... Sometimes you have to lift the engine halfway out of the car to get at them, taking off wheels or inside wheelwells could also have to happen.

My 1997 olds bravada won't start. The fuel pump does make sound when I turn the key.?

The fuel filter was changed, still nothing. It ran for a minute when gas was dumped into the fuel injector, but died shortly after. Any suggestions??? Thanks.........My 1997 olds bravada won't start. The fuel pump does make sound when I turn the key.?Check the fuel pressure. You need about 60 # while the pump is runnung and engine is not.
My 1997 olds bravada won't start. The fuel pump does make sound when I turn the key.?
Just because the pump makes noise doesn't mean it pumping at good pressure.
My 1997 olds bravada won't start. The fuel pump does make sound when I turn the key.?
it'll run like poo if your not getting good fuel pressure sure but it will still start. it takes 3 things ti get an engine to start: fuel-air-fire, check to see if your getting any fuel to the rail by sticking a knife tip on the schrader valve (yours i believe has a green or black cap on a BLACK line) if no fuel is present check the flow on the fuel filter, you may have installed it backwords. good luck and god bless

My car has been operating without a fuel filter, not it won't start, what has happened?

I have a 1992 Astro Van that I bought used. It was running fine for a month or so, not it wont' start. It's getting gas to the engine and spark, i changed the spark plugs and it started then stopped. Now it won't start. I went to change the fuel filter and saw that it didn't have one! Just a rubber hose where the filter should be. So now I ask, if it's been running without a filter and now it won't start, what might of happened? is the fuel injectors clogged or something??My car has been operating without a fuel filter, not it won't start, what has happened?Yikes! I would first get someone to stand at the the end of the van. When you turn the key up once but not all the way to start you should hear the fuel pump start up. It will sound like a humming noise. If no noise then your fuel pump is bad. Usually a sign of clogging fuel injectors is when the vehicle sputters a bit when you hit the accelator. If the vehicle wasn't doing that before this it is probably your fuel pump.
My car has been operating without a fuel filter, not it won't start, what has happened?
The fuel line is clogged. Running the car without a fuel filter would do that. The fuel has some sediment in it, and now you have clogged a fuel line by not filtering it out.
My car has been operating without a fuel filter, not it won't start, what has happened?
Sounds like you figured it out. Install a new filter and pull your injectors and clean them with a spray cleaner. Check for fuel on the fuel rail again. You may also want to check the fuel pressure.
Put on a fuel filter, can I guess that it was spewing black smoke? which is an indicator of unburned gas which would be the reason that with new plugs it ran before they fouled out. Put in the filter, add some STP to the gas, clean or change the plugs again and you should be fine.
yes your fuel injectors are clogged or your fuel lines might be clogged
It would seem that is the case, if not the injectors, then the fuel line itself.

Fuel system & injector cleaning substance, new car

Hello, I bought brand new car 4 month ago, and I drove 4.500 miles on it already. Do you think it is time to use some kind of injector and fuel system cleaner? If yes, what would be best brand? Also what Gas station should I pump gas at, which one has cleanest gasoline? Thank you

P.S. What else would you advise me to be done, changed in order to be good maintained. It is 2008. Thank youFuel system %26amp; injector cleaning substance, new carNo fuel system treatment should be needed for your car at this time. I like to recommend every 10,000 miles or so, or at the first sign of any rough running or other strange engine symptoms. I prefer the Gumout fuel system cleaner, I get the truck/SUV-sized bottle and use it over 2 tanks in my passenger car.

As for your fuel supplier, I can say that I've purchased fuel from many different sources, some questionable, and have never really had any problems with any of them. Just remember that your vehicle has a fuel filter for a reason, and you should change it at the recommended service interval.

you should not need any kind of injector cleaner for that car.

Follow the owners manual for maintnenacne and that should keep the car runnig well for a long time

Shell gas is the cleanest and seems to provide optimal gas mileage, a fuel injector cleaner will never hurt your engine. Lucas and STP both make quality products. If you buy Lucas follow the directions very closely.

Will a basic oil change service provide solution to help clean my fuel lines/injectors and/or engine?

I own an 04 pontiac grand prix gt for 6 mos. now and I kept on using a regular fuel with a lower octane. Until recently i noticed that my car pings and won't start occasionally. My doubt for this problem was because the fuel I use is low grade so last i changed fuel with a higher octane. However, the same problem happened over the weekend which made me thought that my fuel lines/injector and/or engine is dirty or clogged up.

I am having my regular oil change service this week and I wonder if this would solve the problem I am encountering and would a basic oil change service in a way help in cleaning my fuel line/injector and/or engine?

I would greatly appreciate a detailed advice on this one, THANKS!Will a basic oil change service provide solution to help clean my fuel lines/injectors and/or engine? No, an oil change will not solve the issue that you're describing. You'll need a fuel injection cleaning service. Which you can probably have done at most oil changing service stations or a vehicle service shop. They can also diagnose your vehicle in more detail to determine exactly what the issue is. Your car may not have a clogged fuel line but could be something else, hopefully not worse involving an engine overhaul due to bad valves.

Good luck and hope this helps!
Will a basic oil change service provide solution to help clean my fuel lines/injectors and/or engine?
Oil change has nothing to do as does octane as computer is set for 87 and rest is wasted. You need to folow maintenance manual and have injectors cleaned every 6 months for 60.00

Will a basic oil change service provide solution to help clean my fuel lines/injectors and/or engine?
    no.
This will do nothing for your problem. Fuel system service is completely different than an oil change.

Your problem could be any number of items none of which would be related to your lubrication system.

First of all unless this is the supercharged model, it should only require 87 octane regular unleaded fuel.

Without connecting your engine to any diagnostic equipment I can only make wild guesses.

It could be a malfunctioning knock sensor. This sensor listens for detonation (pinging) and will cause the engine management computer to correct the problem.

It could be a malfunctioning EGR valve, usually stuck in the open position.

It could be excessive carbon buildup. Unlikely. Carbon can build up in the cumbustion chamber to the point where it increases the compression ratio. Unusual in a modern engine and would be a symptom of a serious problem

It could be problems with the fuel system such as dirty fuel injectors, dirty fuel filter, malfunctioning fuel pressure regulator, contaminated fuel, etc.

It could be a plugged catalytic converter. A plugged catalytic converter is usually caused when there is a problem with the fuel / air mixture.

It could be a dirty or malfunctioning oxygen sensor or mass airflow sensor. These sensors help the engine management computer determine the correct fuel / air mixture and ignition timing.

You have a few choices here. You can throw lots of parts and money at it and hope that you get lucky enough to stumble upon the source of your problem. In the mean time you will get frustrated with your car because you will be spending lots of money in the process and it will continue to run like crap.

You can continue to waste your money on premium fuel

Or your best choice would be to bring it to the Pontiac Dealer Service Department. I know this will cost more than a private mechanic. But a Pontiac mechanic specializes in General Motors products. They would be more likely to get it right the first time, saving you money in the long run.
The ping is probably something else. Did your engine throw any codes?
change the fuel filter and get the injector service too. that will clean out the screens in the injector nozzles. use a gas treatment once a month to keep water / dirt out of your tank.
no an oil change doesnt have anything to do with the fuel line

you can buy some gas additive at any auto parts store and even most gas stations, add a bottle of that about once a month or every couple weeks to clean out bad gas, and use better gas for a while at least
Normal oil service won't change anything about your fuel system, although many oil change places will offer a fuel line/injector cleaning service for another fee. I have had it done before and I'm skeptical that it did anything that a bottle of fuel additive type cleaner won't do.
Mad Jack gave the only sensible answer. All this guessing and throwing money at it won't do a bit of good.
I would have your injector system serviced as well and have the Ignition system Inspected for a miss-fire.
premium fuel is never a bad idea, that helps reduce knock and usualy has more detergents in it to help stop that carbon build up, your knock sensor listens for knock like the other guy said, if it hears a knock then it will retard the timming a little to try an stop that pinging, if you have better fuel in it, it should have to retard the timming less and may actually advance it and you could increase your gas millage, it would probably take a tank or two for it to realize it completely that it can advance it further than it use to be able to, its just like people used to advance their timming on older cars with the distributor cap, you cant do that anymore its automatically done for you, but using the better fuel will advance the timming
b-rich, if you put higher octane gas in a motor that is designed for 87 octane it will do NOTHING for the motor and can, in some cases, hurt performance.

To the person that asked the question, listen to some of the other guys, you need to take it somewhere to get a diagnosis, it could be NUMEROUS things and it doesn't sound like you're too mechanically inclined(no offense).

I have a question about the fuel system in a 2003 dodge stratus?

last week my car developed a miss while idle and occasionally on take off but was fine i had it hooked up to a computer and was told it has a miss in cylinder 1 i was told to add some fuel injector cleaner and see if that worked. it didnt. changed the spark plugs that didnt help either. today i took it out and the check engine light started flashing it started shuddering made a strange noise a few times and almost acted like it was running out of gas but it got me to where i was going so i could trade it for my husbands truck and it didnt stall any. im wondering what it is like when the fuel pump goes bad and also what it is like when a catylitic converter goes bad any help?I have a question about the fuel system in a 2003 dodge stratus?Since injector cleaner, changing plugs did not help, and plug wires checked out good and no mechanical problems, sound like injector 1 maybe dumping too much fuel flooding out no. 1 cylinder. The check engine light flashing indicates a condition that could damage the converter such as too much unburned fuel that can clog up the converter. The check engine light will also indicate if the converter is failing thanks to a front and back O2 sensor at the converter.
I have a question about the fuel system in a 2003 dodge stratus?
Could be bad wires.Spark plug wires.
I have a question about the fuel system in a 2003 dodge stratus?
the check engine light alerts you to trouble with the exhaust?emmissions.probably the convertor is getting plugged or a bad 0 2 sensor.

How do I get my car to pass the California Smog Test?

    I failed twice now.

After the first one I took it into the shop and had a Smog Test Diagnostic done. I had to replace the Flange Gasket, clean the Fuel Injectors, Change the Oil, %26amp; Clean the Throttle Body. I took it back to the Smog Testing place and it failed. I took it to another place and asked if they could make any adjustments and they wanted me to pay them for another Smog Diagnostic. I JUST HAD THAT DONE! Anyway, I need to know what adjustments I can make on the car so that it will pass. I have a 1994 Toyota Corolla. I know that it is JUST adjustments that need to be made on the fuel intake and emissions output. It has nothing to do with whether the car is in working condition or not. I am in the San Diego area if you can recommend a place that will help make the adjustments cheap and help it pass.

Thanks for your help. How do I get my car to pass the California Smog Test? What you have done is in the right direction, but if you really want to pass legally, you have to be concern with two things: Catalytic Converter and O2 sensor.

If you don't want to spend that extra money, replace catalytic converter first, then O2 sensor later.

If you still don't want to spend that much money, get one of the bottle that guranteed you will pass from Kragen and try your luck, or you can pay someone to pass you.

Good Luck. Don't forget distributor cap %26amp; rotor, air filter and spark plugs
How do I get my car to pass the California Smog Test?
California air quality resources board. Or CARB has you bent over the fender. Apply for a hardship exemption and let the smog guys adjust on your car. Unless you drove this 1994 from the 47 other states that do not require ZLEV or ULEV emissions California does. You will be OK they will wave your car past emission.%26quot; If you imported this car from Nevada watch out your car is out of compliance and has to be eliminated!%26quot; just kidding. You really need to get the local smog athority on your tail pipe.

What the heck is he talking about? I have no idea what he's talking about, he probably doesn't either.

Also, there's no such thing as a V4...and if you're that worried about gas then sell the car before putting a SMALLER engine into a muscle car.

Seriously, if you're that worried about gas sell it and buy a Honda or Toyota or a more economical GM vehicle.

    Fuel System Cleaner?

I have a 2000 Toyota Celica GT and I was wondering what is the best product to use to clean out my fuel system. I was going to change my fuel injectors, but I was told there is no point, and that they are probably just dirty.Fuel System Cleaner? Most fuel system cleaners don't work very good ...I have heard great things about seafoam but can't say from personal experience

    http://www.seafoamsales.com/products.htm
    Fuel System Cleaner?
dump 3 or 4 bolltles in the next time you gas up. just about any brand is good. they are all about the same. You may hav to do this for a while depending on how much varnish accumolated on the injectors.

Mind you this kind of situation happens mostly from a lot of driving in the city with all that stop and go stuff. If you do a lot of highway driving its usually not a problem. the car more r less cleans itself.
    Fuel System Cleaner?
Use a high quality injector cleaner about every 5th fill. STP or any other well known. Injectors are expensive and should be cleaned on a regular basis. Do not neglect your fuel filter!
The EVERWARE system cleaner is one of the best on the market, but you would need to take it to a shop to have it done. It is a 3 stage cleaner, 1 it has a in fuel tank injector cleaner that absorbs water and burns it to remove water from tank and clean lines, 2 has a throtlebody/carb cleaner that takes off carbon deposits and other gunk and cleans really well, 3 has a intake and injector cleaner to remove carbon deposits in intake manifold and injectors, this is done while the car runs @2000 RPM and is put in thru the cars vacuum system. This is an $60-85 retail system cleaner.

Most over the counter fuel system cleaner are the same and dont really do much if anything.

    Hope this helps.

How do I check the fuel injector and spark plugs for a 2002 honda cbr f4i?

I have a 2002 Honda cbr f4i, its my first bike and I don't know much about it. I was driving with my friends street playing when I hit a speed bump going pretty fast and it just cut off and won't start back up. After reading I think it has something to do with the fuel injector because when I try to start it up I hear silence when I turn my key when I use to hear a sound when the rpm needle went up and down. I tried to pop the clutch for a hour or two but it will sound like the engine rolls two or three times and dies like it doesn't want to catch. All the lights and everything work fine. Once again I don't know much about bikes and would like anyones opinion and advice, I would appreciate it so much. I have just recently changed the battery so I'm counting that out. Thank you again. How do I check the fuel injector and spark plugs for a 2002 honda cbr f4i?You can not check the injectors. A mechanic is the only one who can check those. The plugs you really can not check, all you can do is look at them to see if they are worn out, or wet.

What happens when a fuel injector goes bad?

ok so here i am again about my 2001 ford windstar, the problem started with my spark plugs the garage has my van now and he tells me the valves went bad because the fuel injector was spitting out to much gas and when it does that the only out let it has in threw the cylinder thats why it was burning the tip off the spark plug and when they heely coiled it ...it wasnt able to spit the spark plug out so it like almost vacuumed sucked the valve back into the head so my question is when they changed all my spark plugs it was fine before i just took it into have a tune up..so is this something that just happens or did the garage to something to help this to happen? What happens when a fuel injector goes bad?First off all, too much fuel will never burn a valve or ruin a spark plug on any gasoline engine on the face of the earth. *Take that to the bank!

Too much fuel may foul a plug making it look black or dark and cause it to misfire. *Too little fuel will burn valves, valve seats, turn spark plugs white, burn spark plug electrodes and burn pistons.

If the fuel injection nozzles were dirty or partially plugged you'd get a lean mixture in a particular cylinder.

It's time to change mechanics or take your Ford to a Ford dealership so they'll know what to hell they're doing

The garage didn't hurt the motor. Something is causing what ever cylinder your having problems with not to be getting enough fuel.
What happens when a fuel injector goes bad?
%26lt;-------Tisha, See my name, when a fuel injector goes bad..............it just stops so called spewing gasoline into the piston chamber period. Then the chamber would run dry, decreasing your gas mileage. When a fuel injector sips out too much gasoline, it can damage the cataytic converter, damage the Oxygen sensors. Sounds right to me that all you need is a new fuel injector and some fuel system cleaner
What happens when a fuel injector goes bad?
if the car was OK.. until you go to them for a tune-up ... that`s all you need to know.

I never heard about this problem at any ford. Still ...the injector can put to much gas. In this case you push the pedal to much, so you should have a huge gas consume and a big speed. If the valves are bad, they should charge you for valves, gaskets, oil %26amp; filter. This parts are not more then ....$200. Now depends how much they will charge you per hour. to take the valves back. By the way.... if they change the valves, tell them to change the belts too. ALL of them. Sometimes after you change the valves, you can broke them if the timing belt broke. Anyway, next time, try to find a mechanic on www.craigslist.com It`s way cheaper and they are doing a good job. They need money not like the garages. I hate to put any car in any garage. All the garages look for customers.... and they will do something bad with your car to make you come back. 86 6.2 diesel fuel injector lines. Bought new ones but the inner diameter appears a little larger. Problem?

I bought injector lines for my GMC 6.2 diesel on-line. The price was right, however they were not marked. The parts store advised me they were pretty sure they were the correct ones, but could not 100% say for sure. That's why I paid $60.00 for the set including shipping. Anyways here I am ready to put the lines and I realize the inner diameter is a little larger. The bends also appear somewhat off but not drastic. The old lines look like they were twisted up over the years from past engine work. Is this going to be a problem? I was told by someone that the truck will never work right again if I use the wrong line. Is this true? There are 3 lines arraignments to chose when purchasing. One is for the 6.5L and the other 2, well? Is it possible I have the 6.5L lines because the inner diameter is larger or is this because its an new part that was modified over the years. Really need to know before I put this engine back together. Alot of work tearing the upper end apart to get to the Fuel Injector Pump. I sent the Injector Pump out to be checked/rebuilt if needed. When I reinstall the Pump there's talk about having the timing gears lined up. The Pump can only go back in one way, the same as it was taken off. The crank hasn't been moved so how can this change the timing?

Thanks Phil86 6.2 diesel fuel injector lines. Bought new ones but the inner diameter appears a little larger. Problem?well a good bet if they dont look the same then they are not the same and the timing shouldnt be anything to worry over if nothing moved... but i would check the line size tell the to get any other size and look at them match one to what you have they coul d check that

Can they clean my fuel injectors without my car running ?

I'm having fuel injector problems. I think there so clogged up the car wont start. It will start with a cup of gas in the intake but not run. On a fresh start up it starts for a sec. before it dies again. I got good pressure at the fuel rail so it's gotta be clogged injectors right? I did just change out he in tank fuel pump, after which it wouldnt start ??? V8 so I dont know about changing out the injectors, so can they clean em out if it will only start but not run? How dose it work???Can they clean my fuel injectors without my car running ?the car wont run after you installed the fuel pump? It sounds to me like the pump isnt putting enough pressure to the injectors. Its not likely all 8 injectors failed at the same time. Is this a newer engine with port fuel injection? Or is it something like a throttle body? If your adding a cup of gas to the intake, that means the injectors arent being used, the fuel is going in straight with the air. Maybe the injectors arent getting voltage. I use a test light at the wiring harness to check for voltage pulses.
Can they clean my fuel injectors without my car running ?
it is unlikely for all of the injectors to quit all at once, if the injectors were to go bad they would go one at a time, what you need to do is test to make sure the injectors are getting signal from the computer, most auto shops will have node lights i think there called to test them, or you can check with a test light, but dont go replacing all the injectors, if they were clogged the car would run crappy, but they would not i repeat would not ALL go bad at once, its more than likely something electrical with the car, and injectors can run about 70 dollars a piece so you want to be certain of whether there bad or not before you replace them,
Can they clean my fuel injectors without my car running ?
Fuel injectors rarely get dirty now days. You probably have a problem with the crankshaft or camshaft sensor not pulsing the injectors. Is the ses light on and have you had the vehicle scanned for codes? What is the fuel pressure? 40 to 50lbs is average. Why did you change the fuel pump, bad pressure?

You won't get anywhere just guessing. Have a mechanic check the data on a scanner, not just scan for codes. A bad temperature sensor can lean out the fuel and keep a car from starting. There are too many things that can cause your vehicle not to start to guess at. Telling us the model, year and make of your ride would help!
He's right. Replace the injectors. The car will run much much more better if you can get it to run. Besides you are only delaying the ineviteable. IF you're getting the proper pressure to the fuel rail then yes, it would have to be the injectors.
It will probably run you up around the same to have them cleaned and renewed as it would to replace them with new injectors. Assuming that is the problem, could be something else. How is the air intake/fan?
Remove the injectors and you will find the problem you should not need to replace all of them in fact you will most likely find an obstruction in the rail itself.
I've got to agree with frank. If it ran before you changed the pump, and didn't after, there might be a pinched fuel line or return line at the back. Before you spend any more money, double check your install.
There is a service where they clean the injectors using untrasonic cleaner.

I would just get new injectors.

    Fuel injector leaking?

I recently changed an intake manifold in my 97 ford crown vic because it came with a faulty intake. While putting a fuel injector back in the rail (which was taken out to make room for the removal of the intake) i noticed that the o ring was a bit stretched and a bit of it was clipped off while putting it in, I already knew that it would most likely leak. it is leaking. Now my engine make a very load and consistent ping noice, and it is idling low I am assuming that this is cus one of the cilinders is running dry and all i am hearing is metal bouncing up and down. And for the idling low i am assuming that this is also due to a lack of fuel pressure because of the leak. Would somebody tell my if my assumptions are correct, and if not what else it would be.Fuel injector leaking? The ping noise could be just that. Low fuel pressure. the O-Ring should have been replaced when you noticed it. It is not a hard job but I think you should do all 8 just to be safe. I have found that a very light coat of cooking oil on the rings will let the fuel rail slide over the rings without damage.

yeah thats pretty much right, just change the o ring and you should be good

The only other things I can think of are: the canister is full and needs to be changed, pump, pumping too much(don't think thats possiable) or the fuel rail. when repressureized it (around injectors)will leak with the car off. arrrrrrgh....I am about to get red perma**** and seal everything unless someone can help me with this87 accord lxi fuel injector/rail leak?yes

If you look at the coil pack, it will have the cylinders marked. Then just follow the plug wire to the spark plug. The injector will be in the valley across the valve cover

    Fuel pump pressure test?

Where do I hook up the pressure tester for my 85 monte carlo?

I think I have a fuel pump going bad.. so I was going to test the pressure.

When I drive, my car will sometimes feel like it's losing power.. It used to start dieing out a little when I would drive or let it sit at idle. It doesn't do it all the time which baffles me.

So far I've changed the fuel filter which has made it better but still does it just not as often. I've changed the MAP sensor.. still does it.. Changed my fuel injectors.. still same thing..

It seemed to happen after I put some fuel injector cleaner in it.. So im thinking my fuel filter got clogged causing the fuel pump to work harder..

    Any suggestion?

What I really need right now is to figure out where to hook up the pressure tester thanks..Fuel pump pressure test?HOOK IT TO THE OUTLET COMING OUT OF THE FUEL PUMP GOING TO YOUR ENGINE. IF YOU TAP OUT THE FUEL IN THE FUEL FILTER ON TO A WHITE PAPER TOWEL,AND SEE IF THERE IS A LOT OF METAL IN IT ...........ITS PROBABLY YOUR FUEL PUMP GOING OUT.............................IF YOU ARE GETING ENOUGH PRESSURE OUT OF THER ,GO TO YOUR FUEL RAIL (IF ITS FUEL INJ) COULD ALSO BE THE FUEL REGULATOR,RARE BUT IT HAPPENS................GOOD LUCK

There is no test port so what you need to do is tap in a t-fiting to the rubber line.

You will need a new ignition module to cure the starting problem.

Fuel pump relay going bad will cause the pump not to work.

And the last problem that could be comming is the lower intake manifold gaskets could be leaking, making it seem like the head gasket is going but its not really. Good trick GM made to have you spend money at the dealerships.
Chev. Malabo 2002, don't start, sometime computer problem sometime fuel pump anyone have solution for this ?
Are you actually doing the work or is there a mechanic doing it?? You didn't get it fixed--so go to a real dealer and get it done properly. I don't know how you figured out what you tried--but if they don't fix it, you take it back until they do it right. No one can tell you what it is from a site---it is in need of the dealer for the BEST repair.

Where is the fuel filter and fuel pump located on a 1997 Nissan sentra and how do you change them?

I want that horrible smell gone so i want to replace these two parts first and see if it helps! One fuel injector getting no power, another getting constant power?

Recently my heater coil sprung a leak, and in servicing that noticed problems with misfiring. I don't think they are related but stating that in case they are. I've changed the plugs and tested the coils and all seems to be fine there. I then moved to the fuel injectors.

With the car running, I disconnected power to each injector. When injectors 2 and 3 were disconnected, the car began to die, and no change occurred when 1 and 4 were disconnected. I then put a test light on the plugs for injectors 1 and 4, which have two terminals. Plug 1 had no power to either terminal. Plug 2 had constant power (the light did not blink) at both terminals, but when one of the terminals was tested, the engine started to die. Would this be a problem with the harness or with the controller?

For reference, the car is a 1991 Pontiac Grand Am with a 2.3L DOHC (Duel OverHead Cam) Quad-4 engine that has an Integrated Direct Ignition system. One fuel injector getting no power, another getting constant power? The ecu or computer under the dash is what controls the FI . Flooding the motor could have shorted some thing in the computer .Go to the parts store and get another one and plug it in!
One fuel injector getting no power, another getting constant power?
Quad Four engines are VERY troublesome. This is why they are no longer on the market!! There could be corrosion in your wiring harness. You could even have a bad head gasket (very common on these) that is causing a ground problem for your injectors. Pull your plugs, and look for signs of discoloration indicating that your head gasket is sucking coolant. GM should just give you a newer car. When I was a dealership technician, these poor cars kept coming in over and over again with NO real solutions made. Good luck!!
One fuel injector getting no power, another getting constant power?
You have the answer already in your question....it's either the harness or the computer.

As a future precaution - do not use a test light on computer controlled components - the test light has a very low impedance and can easily present what is essentially a short circuit to the computer. There are high impedance LED test lights and volt meters available to test these circuits.
Injectors 1 and 4 are on one circuit, 2 and 3 on another; they are all powered up through the same wire by the computer, and each circuit is grounded in alternating fashion to feed the fuel to the engine in the best manner. So you should have constant power from the computer to one wire of each connector, but you will read power at both wires since it will back feed through the wiring to the other wire. The hot wire should be gray, the grounding wires blue or green depending on which circuit. That being said, it seems you have power from the computer to both circuits but it is somehow being disrupted, maybe a wire is burned through and shorted. Tough to find these things sometimes. I would start by following the wiring loom from the injectors back and looking for something wrong. Good luck.

  • Why is my 96 cavalier getting too much air?

After i changed the fuel injector rings my check engine light came on, I don't know if it has anything to do with changing the rings, but it happened after i did them, I took it to Advance Auto and hooked up the computer to it and the computer says the car is getting too much air, one person said it could be the evap system and someone else says it could be some kind of little box thats located in the fuel system in the gas tank......?Why is my 96 cavalier getting too much air? When you say it is getting too much air, do you mean that you retrieved a code like P0171 - System Lean Bank 1? Is it possible that you didn't plug in one of the injectors properly or fully? Maybe popped off a vacuum hose by accident? I believe both the 2.2 %26amp; 2.4 use a MAP sensor and usually you would get a too rich code because of a bad vacuum hose or sensor and not this problem.

The first thing to do is re-check your work. If it is not running as smooth as prior to the replacement of the fuel injector o-rings, you may have just made a mistake. I don't know the exact code you are getting, but I assume it is the code I mentioned.

I put a new injector pump on my 2002 5.9 ho truck and it roles white raw diesel smoke at an idle.?

I put a new injector pump on my 2002 5.9 ho truck and it roles white raw diesel smoke at an idle then starts loping real bad with even thicker white smoke. If you give it throttle it pops out the exhaust then clears up. So I put another pump on it and it does the same, then I put injectors in it and is still the same. it has good fuel pressure , fass lift pump, Fluid dampener. Checked all sensors and it has no codes. 165,000 miles.

People have told me it is the ecm, so I changed that and still the same, I have tried every thing else so I don't know what to do. Did an injector kill test and it jumps around. I change the injectors around and it didn't change. It has had 3 different pumps and didn't change. 2 sets of injectors and didn't change. Changed fuel filter, checked injector lines in the right order, it doesn't trough any codes. So I don't no if it could be a sensor or which sensor to replace. It could get expensive replacing all the sensors, man this is frustrating and getting expensive.I put a new injector pump on my 2002 5.9 ho truck and it roles white raw diesel smoke at an idle.?Sounds like you are replacing the pump but not resetting the timing when you do. White smoke and a lope are signs of retarded timing.
I put a new injector pump on my 2002 5.9 ho truck and it roles white raw diesel smoke at an idle.?
Get it to a shop, your spending way more money than if you had takin it to a shop to begin with. Shotgunning parts will cost you a fortune. Also the down time you have lost is worth more than the shops time anyways. Sounds like you might have the timing out though. Very common problem when I have seen customer installed injection pumps on those cummins engines.

How will I know when it's time to have my fuel injectors cleaned.?

I recently bought a used (24,000 mi) 2005 Chrysler Sebring and took it to a car wash/oil change place to establish a baseline for future oil changes. The car wash tries to get you to have extra things done... radiator flush, fuel injector cleaning, windshield replacement etc. They said my fuel injectors need to be cleaned... how can tell if they know what they're doing or just trying to take my money? How will I know when it's time to have my fuel injectors cleaned.?Sounds like a shyster outfit. Just get the STP stuff at a parts store every few tank fulls. Follow the guidelines in the operator manual (if you have it or look on line) for maintenance. Replace windshield when needed, use your eyes to figure this out, my 1987 still has the original and it is good. Radiator should not ever need to be flushed if taken care of properly, change coolant at mfr spec interval (perhaps 100,000 miles), NEVER use tap water in it.
How will I know when it's time to have my fuel injectors cleaned.?
Just based on age the injector cleaning is overdue. To wait for a problem to occur can result in expensive injector replacement. Changing the fuel filter every couplef years i also a good idea on fuel injected cars since the fuel keeps recycling through the filter as it's returned after the pressure regulator
How will I know when it's time to have my fuel injectors cleaned.?
They're just trying to get your money. Injectors on an older car - like 75,000 miles old - might benefit from being cleaned correctly, by which I mean having the injectors pulled out and having cleaning fluid pumped backwards through them. Even then, I probably wouldn't do it unless the car is a race car and needs every last horsepower, the car has a missfire, or you have just bought an unknown set of used injectors. But 25,000 miles is not enough time for the injectors to get plugged.
Clean them when the engine appears not to run as smoothly as it normally does. You can do it yourself by adding a bottle of Techron or Lucas fuel injection cleaner about every 6 months to your tank. Preventative maintenance.
your engine light will come on if your injectors r bad,use a injector cleaner once a month in your fuel tank ,sound like they are trying to sell u somthing u dont need.
You'll have no doubts when your injectors are dirty. The best method is to keep them clean. Use Chevron gas with 'Techron' and add a bottle of 'Techrolene' to your tank periodically.
just replace your fuel filter once a year, and put in a fuel additive every third or forth fill up. between 45,000 and 60,000 you should think about getting a fuel system service done for preventive maintenance
They are trying to take your money. You do not have enough miles on the car to warrant getting the injectors cleaned. If you are worried about keeping them clean I highly recommend Lucas.

If an injector really does have a problem the engine will be missing at the cylinder with the injector problem.

I owned a 1985 Volvo (recently traded for a new car) with fuel injection. I had the car for 6 years, never had the injectors cleaned and I don't think the previous owner did either. The car had 275,000 miles at trade time. My mom's 1988 Plymouth Grand Voyager never had an injector cleaning either...335,000 miles. The injector system in the Grand Voyager and the Volvo were the same system. Chances are your Sebring is using the same system...K-Jetronic by Bosch.
You'll know when the engine starts running ragged, and your gas mileage goes down. Normally there is no reason to take them out and clean them. Just toss a bottle of STP Fuel Injection Cleaner or an equivalent every couple of months or so. I had a truck that demanded that treatment once a month regardless. That one probably DID need a proper cleaning, though.
Cough, cough, cough...THEY are totally taking your money. Why fix it if it aint broken!!!!!(The cough is your fuel injector talking to you!)
Bad mileage, poor performance, etc. etc. They are tring to take your money I would say.You can go to Auto Zone or any auto shop and they can check your Computer. If you are having injector problems it will show up as a code that will tell you .Email me if you need more info.
You should probably change them everytime you change filters and oil. That's usually every 3,000 miles or so. You have no idea if they were done and when before you bought the thing.
add a bottle of injector cleaner every other tank full you get and your injectors will be fine ..and when you do add it add it before you fill up
You all ready have the answer. Common sense told you to doubt wheather they need to be cleaned. The car will help tell you when. Additives may help, but they also drive the cost of operation way up.
Dunno, but when i get my car serviced I usually bring ma ex. We're good friends and he knows alot about cars so he tells the mechanics what I want done. =) God bless the ex's
    Tune up your car!

    5) buy and read a manual on your model $20

    6] change oil with a synthetic every 6000miles $ 5 a quart

    7) check and replace low transmission, windshield washer, radiator, power steering and brake fluids.

    8) look underneath for copious leaks.

    9) note uneven tire wear.

    0) read the manual.

Kick back for a year and quit worrying!
Ford recommends using fuel injector cleaner about every 3rd or 4th tank full, make sure you have at least 8 gallons of gas in your tank when you pour in your injector cleaner.
Generally the book provided by the manufacturer states when to do things, you could always call a service department at the dealer too. Do not trust the oil change places, they should stick to selling oil and not maintenance.

If your car is extremely sluggish, has poor acceleration, stalls, etc... then you need to get them cleaned. The best way to keep from having the problem is to prevent it with injector cleaners added every couple of tanks, and use good gas.
Your fuel injectors in all probability should not need cleaning. Unless some how forein substance entered your gas line, more than likely it is not the case. Try some dry gas or high octane rated fuel. Stay away from the place. Go to an expert for advice and do as much of the work you can yourself. Yes of course they are trying to take your money thats what they do.
I am a service writer in Georgia for this car company. Fuel injectors do become %26quot;gunked somewhat by carbon over time. Injector cleaners from autopart stores really cant clean as well as these do. As for the coolant flush..I have seen waterpumps blades actually rust away due to flushes not being performed as they should over the life of a vehicle. Sure they are trying to %26quot;upsell%26quot; services but some of the services will save you repairs on down the road. Here is a guideline for you. Injector and coolant flushes every 36k to 40k. Transmission service every 50K. This will save you big repir bills down the road! Some will argue this timetable but it is what I use here at my shop. Hope it helps!
Usually it does not need cleaning. If all the oil change and maintenance is done.

Owner manual does prints required interval.

If you notice any loss of power for no reason and suspect injectors, You can keep it clean by adding manufacturer's approved products to the gas tank at regular interval. By the way gas is blended for local condition, most have additives that are suppose to keep injectors clean.

    PS:

Chrysler dealer parts department will sale you a bottle of injector cleaner and it has instructions on it. You may want to use this regularly if you are in stop and go traffic or driving on gravel or dirt road or going thru construction that produces dust. It may be lot cheaper some where else, not exact same stuff but some thing equal or similar.
You should go by what your manufacturers auto manual says. It's always the best source. If you don't have the manual, you should atleast have your injectors cleaned every 6 months.
they are just saying that. They have no idea if you got it cleaned yesterday. They would still tell you.
I've never put fuel injection cleaner in my cars and they've always run fine...save your money

Another fuel smell from the car - at the back?

My car has a potent fuel smell and it's just been endless for fuel leaks.

the injectors were changed and fuel lines renewed. it seems to be from the fuel tank seal because u can smell it straight away in that area. i just dont think the seal would make it smell so badly though. its not visually leaking anywhere else.

what about the fuel regulator? it has trouble idling when it's cold...Another fuel smell from the car - at the back?Depending what kind of vehicle you have there are several Chrysler vehicles that have rubber 90* elbow fittings that get brittle and crack right at the fuel pump causing a gas small and in some cases a small leak.
Another fuel smell from the car - at the back?
The cap needs to seal so as fuel does'nt flow out.

But I would be checking the breather pipe for the tank and make sure it is not blocked.

I have seen a few Sentras of that era with bad intake gaskets causing rough idle and poor performance.
yes they can go without any warning but sometimes it,s not the pump but the fuel filter.some people just think it,s the pump when it don,t start but the fuel filter can act like the pump when it gets clogged. the filter can get pretty clogged that gas can,t go through them. also your problem could be the pump regulator on the fuel rail.

Edit: When you remove the MAF and turn it over, you will see two little wires, use the MAF cleaner on them, make sure that you don't damage them, if they are damaged, you will have to get a new MAF.

RE: 2001 Taurus-Still have same problem with car, had Fuel injector replaced, we , or mechanic determined it?
Try replacing the plug wires. It could be miss-firing or cross firing.
RE: 2001 Taurus-Still have same problem with car, had Fuel injector replaced, we , or mechanic determined it?
Is it coil over plug?..or is there an ignition coil located on the left hand side...If it is coil ovr plug replace the coil and recheck..It just sounds like a coil problem...

If it is a normal plug and wire system locate the ignition coil where all the wires connect to and remove it..Inspect underneath the coil for cracks or damage..If you notice a defect replace the coil..

Can you change your fuel filter with a full tank?

My 1990 Jeep cherokee has an in-line fuel filter, and I have never worked on it before. I also don't even know if this will fix the problem, which is sputtering and stalling when speed is reduced, could there be another problem? I have already cleaned the throttle body, and the fuel injectors, and intend to replace the spark plugs after the fuel filter.

thanksCan you change your fuel filter with a full tank? The fuel level does not matter with an inline filter. Make sure that the ignition is off, so that the fuel pump is not energized, and put a pan under the filter to catch the gas that will come out. After you replace the filter, cycle the ignition switch on and off three times, leaving it on for 30 seconds each time, to allow the fuel pump to fill the filter and line.

If you still have a problem, check the fuel pressure. The fuel pump itself could be weak and causing the problem
Can you change your fuel filter with a full tank?
Yes you can change the fuel filter with a full tank of gas! Have you checked engine timing, distributor cap and rotor, and spark plug wires?
Can you change your fuel filter with a full tank?
Yes you can. Be aware of any spill, but most tanks will not drain unless pumped empty. Remember to relieve any stored fuel pressure before loosening the filter so you don't get pressurized fuel in your eyes/nose/mouth. Most of the time i put the wrench on the line, cover both the wrench and line with a thick or doubled/tripled up rag, then loosen the nut slightly until any residual pressure is gone.
sure you can as long as you relieve the pressure off the tank. what i do is take the cap off. also you might want to have the cat. converter checked. it might be starting to clog up.
yes u can first take out the fuss for the fuel pump then start the car untill u run of gas.the fuel filter may be the problem.

Way to improve fuel economy on a 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier?

    hi,

I used to have a 1995 Cavalier, until about 2.5 years ago when I bought this 2004 model.

That Cavalier I had before, was standard, and I was saying I'd say about 650 to ask much as 750km on a full tank of gas. (60L)

The engine is I believe the same. 2.0L 4 Cyl engine. In fact I think now its' also an %26quot;ecotec' so is that supposed to be even MORE efficient in the 2004 model.

I get about not more than 500 maybe 550km's on a full tank now.

Not sure why this is happening.

    - 58000 km on it.

-Regularly get oil changes -every about 5000 km from GM dealer

-have good tires, all season - original tires I think they should be good until about 75,000 km, still lots of tread. check the air pressure regularly.

-I don't idle my car for long times

    - i don't rev my engine too much and 'take it easy' driving, keep rpm around 2 to 3000rpm.

-regularly put in fuel injector cleaner about every 10000 km

    - do u think changing fuel filter would help, would i need to do this? anything else ??Way to improve fuel economy on a 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier?Sounds like you are in the mix of wondering. You have not mentioned what kind of transmission you have on each car. But the 95 model will have less smog equipment than your newer 2004 model. Let us all know what transmission you have in each.
Way to improve fuel economy on a 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier?
Are the gas tanks the same size ? These are different cars from 95 to 04' The 04 is a 2.2L engine with much more power, about 140hp compared to 110 or so for the 95'. You need to check your actual mileage. Next time you fill up,write down the vehicle miles or rest your trip odometer. After using that tank note how many gallons it takes to refill. divide the number of miles you went by the gallons to refill. A mid to high twenties number should be good for this car. If lower, have a dealer check it out.

my car honda accord 88 model injector engine is burning so much fuel i change the sparking plug and oxigen censor but no change, i don't know or is from brain box?Pls some body tell me why my car Honda accord 88 model injector they consumed more fuel?I'm not sure if you mean it has suddenly begun to burn more fuel, or whether you mean it always has burned a lot.

Fuel injection cars DO burn more fuel because it actually INJECTS more fuel into the system.

i own a repair shop and id like to be able to give you a good solid answer on it,but you really need to take it and have it checked out real good ,there has to be something wrong with it,when you put new plugs in was they gaped right because if not they will cause it to burn a lot of fuel, you need to have it checked out really good, because there not supposed to use gas like that, good luck i hope this helps.

Hello i have a nissan 240sx 89 i just got it out of the shop like 2 days ago and now i have a problem i thought it was a fuel injector so i went to the auto store and brought a new 1 turns out im having the same problem as before so then i changed the orings and its still shootin out fuel what do i do please helpFuel injector problem?Well first of all, Why did you have it at the mechanics, they might have forgot to tighten/put on something as well, it is a pretty popular thing these days lol. but to better explain this issue try to sound out sounds it makes or vibrations, rhythms, etc... it helps us try to help you ALOT better. For example what makes you think it is a fuel injector?(Fuel injectors are pretty rare to go bad, ive had over 40 cars and never had 1 issue with them car mileages from 20k-278k miles on the motors). Does it putter when your driving? does it stall at stop signs? Does it sound like its gasping for air when you give it gas? etc. i hope this helped reply back if you can and further explain what you problem is if possible. Good Luck :P
    Fuel injector problem?
try seeing if the fuel rail is bad or did you replace all the o rings is the injector installed all the way did you leave a old o ring in the rail before you installed the new one come on you can't see where it is leaking from and remember to do it out side and don't use a drop light near the fuel a hot bulb a gas don't mix

Does anyone know if there is a way to tell if a 1995 Subaru Legacy outback is a California Emissions?

I need to change the fuel injector on my Subaru, but need to know if it is a Cali emissions car or not to get the right part. Unfortunately the car was in an accident years ago and the decal that states whether or not it is was never replaced. Is there any other way to figure this out?Does anyone know if there is a way to tell if a 1995 Subaru Legacy outback is a California Emissions?Yes there should be a sticker underneath the hood of the vehicle that list emissions info and it will state California Emissions if the vehicle is indeed CA emissions ready.

I have an '03 Forester and it does state this on that sticker. I am unsure if your case may be different because your car is a '95. I also know that OBD-II did not come out until 1996 which may complicate things, however I would have to think that older vehicles are somehow grandfathered and held to less stringent emissions requirements. I live in the Northeast U.S. in a metro suburb and our emissions standards are somewhat strict but certainly not as strict as yours. I would check the attached link it may shed more light on this, good luck!

Any Subaru dealer can run the VIN# and properly identify the car's origin (49 or 50 state) and correct injector.

Have you checked the fuel pressure? A 2001, I noted you changed the fuel filter, but, without looking at it my self, and from what you describe, is either low fuel pressure or maybe a jumped timing chain. You never mentioned how many miles on the car. Not much info to help, so this is a guess.

Poor gas mileage, fuel injector cleaner helps?

i already check everything, except o2 sensor and injector...

o2 sensor cost too much and i dont know i need it replace or not...

so i will try fuel injector cleaner

lucas and chevron techron, which is good and safe?

my car has only 25000 miles but it is 6 years car.....any other reason it cause poor gas mileage? i already oil changed, changed air filter and new spark plug...Poor gas mileage, fuel injector cleaner helps? Before trying fuel injector cleaner, try some regular dry gas. It is will take any moisture out of your tank that is in there. If the car is 6 years old and only has 25K on it, it sounds like it sits a lot. When your car sits your gas tank can condensate. This causes moisture in your tank and sometimes that moisture is getting into your engine. This can cause a white smoke out of your exhaust, loss of power, and poor gas mileage. I would try that first. Fuel injector cleaner after. Sometimes you can get buildup in your fuel injection system from it sitting also. I have used the Chevron one. Seems to be ok. I think they are a little over rated though. Good luck.
Poor gas mileage, fuel injector cleaner helps?
any leading brand fuel injector will work good on cleaning the injectors out,id try that and see if it helped it any,if not you might want a shop to diagnose it for you, poor gas mileage can be the cause of a bad sensor or anything tune up related, try the cleaner and see if that helps it any first, good luck.

you will have to say what kind of car it is what size motor and what kind off mileage your geting before any one can help you
it will not hurt to try it

Can fuel injector cleaning cause engine problems?

I had my fuel injectors cleaned along with my regular oil change a week ago, and ever since my car has been behaving oddly. When I first start it, there's resistance on the gas pedal so I have to push extra hard to get it to go. Then it drives normally, but it doesn't like to idle. It feels as if my car wants to go when I'm stopped at a light for more than a few seconds. It's not loud or powerful like you would expect from someone revving the engine, but maybe like if you were really gently revving the engine? Does anyone know what the problem is? Could it have been caused by the fuel injector cleaning, because that's the only thing I did recently that I don't do frequently. Can fuel injector cleaning cause engine problems?Yes, I done it once and my car didn't run the same.

After talking to a local trusted mechanic, he told me those are just gimmics, and can ruin your engine. His advice was one, never use them again, two put at least 5 gallons of super unleaded when your near empty and let it run through.

    Hope this helps.
Can fuel injector cleaning cause engine problems?
it is possible. one and one make 2. //before they got thier hands on it it ran fine,,right??

Engine flushes, radiator flushes, transmission flushes ,and the rest of them are all gimmicks. I never messed around with people's cars like that. And kept the same people for years.

Why would fuel injectors on the carburetor be gushing gas out ?

I have an 1983 mercury grand marquis that recently the fuel pump was changed. Then the car would start then die acting as if no fuel was getting to the carb. I thought it was a bad fuel regulator, then I tried to run the fuel without it and fuel gushed through the injectors, so I replaced the regulator with a new one. I worked fine for a few hours until it has went back to fuel coming out the injectors and it doesnt matter what setting you have on the regulator. If anyone has an idea what would be then please help. Why would fuel injectors on the carburetor be gushing gas out ?Your engine sounds like you have a variable venturi unit, and if so you need a good tech for this repair. Ford had a weak diaphragm in the back of that unit, and it would go bad causing the engine to run poorly, hard start and no start conditions.

The fix is remove the unit, remove the rear cover, drill a drain hole in the body, install a new diaphragm. You should get an old Ford tech as this unit has not been used for 20 yrs. and I have not seen one since 1984. Drilling the drain hole in the wrong place is not repairable, you'd then have to buy a complete unit as you would have no buildable exchange.

Sometimes the cheapest thing to do is pay for somebody else experience, unless you can afford the stupid tax.

You may also have a throttle body injection unit, but in either case it is worth the money to at least pay a good tech so that the parts you do install are what you need to correct the problem.
Why would fuel injectors on the carburetor be gushing gas out ?
floats in the carburator are stuck
Why would fuel injectors on the carburetor be gushing gas out ?
fuel injectors in the carb? not likely.. throttle body injection more like it.

you probably blew out the seals in the injectors,, just replace them
carb have needle valves that shut off the fuel to the carb when the float in the carb is raised by the incoming fuel.

either the float is not floating (holes in it) or the needle valve is stuck. sometimes a light tap at the side next to the needle valve will temporally fix it, if it does you need to rebuild the carb.

1998 Mazda MX6 Engine intermittently accelerates and decelerates when you try to add fuel to increase speed.?

It feels like you are going down the road riding a bunking horse. You can accelerate slowly without the problem, but when you accerlerate normally it does the bunking horse issue.

I have changed out the fuel filter, the O2 censor, and the fuel injectors. None have fixed the problem.1998 Mazda MX6 Engine intermittently accelerates and decelerates when you try to add fuel to increase speed.?Hi

If it accelerates ok at light throttle then it wouldn't be the O2 sensor to blame.

If its only under heavy throttle that the problem occurs then you need to have your fuel pressure, throttle sensor and MAF sensor checked out for starters.

You could simply unplug the wiring plug from the MAF sensor and see if that goes anywhere towards rectifying the problem, but the throttle sensor will need to be checked with a volt meter, and the fuel pressure with a fuel pressure gauge.

    Cheers

    Fuel Injector Questions?

Is the flow rate of the Delphi 25323971 fuel injector and the Delphi 25317628 fuel injector the same. Also where can I find the complete specifications on each of these injectors. I swapped a 5.3 LS 1 engine from a 2002 Silverado and had to change out the intake manifold and injectors. The engine seems to be not getting enough fuel. The engine is hard starting. Although once started it runs o.k. Under hard acceleration it acts like it needs more fuel. I did have the ecm re-programed and I do not get any codes when checked with the scanner. I have looked to find the specifications on the injectors and have had no luck. So I thought I would give this a try.

Thanks for any and all assistance.

WilliamFuel Injector Questions?the slow starting if I read your thoughts correct is a sign of a bad fuel pump in the tank ans was and is a common problem with gm vehicles. they require a lot of cranking before firing over when the pumps fail. after starting though they run ok though it sure seams odd to me its true. this is the pump in the fuel tank by the way. there is often a secondary push pump and may explain why its fime after it would also exlain the crapping out when accelerating as you only have half the psi available. i have doubts that you have any injector complication as you say it idles ok

Not getting fuel to injectors on 1989 surburban?

have changed fuel filter and getting fuel through filterNot getting fuel to injectors on 1989 surburban? It sounds like your problem is at the TBI unit. Remove the air cleaner, and check the wiring going to the 2 injectors inside the air horn. Do a pull test on all the wires/plugs for a loose one.

Are the bottom of the injectors wet from fuel after JUST cranking the motor? If they are, then it probably is a spark problem. If they are still dry, you may not be getting electrical power/computer signal to the injectors. I'm not sure if there is a micro-screen at the incoming side of the TBI unit at the fuel inlet. Disconnect the fuel line toward the rear of the TBI unit and see if there is a screen at all... Could be clogged.

I still vote electrical. Good luck

do you have enough pressure? A weak fuel pump can send fuelpast the filter but not all the way to the engine you need a lot of pressure to get it that far,
ok either there HAS TO BE A LEAK at thne fuel rail or the rail is clogged

it could also be that the fuel pressure regulator is send to a wrong setting sending all the fuel back to the tank

You see Im having this problem where my engine is running without a miss but has this steady shake to it that I cant figure out, They arent leaking but I am thinking there is a problem with them.. it is possible. carbon could have built up arount the nozzle inside your intake /head also...put some injector clean in it and take it out and get it warm and then get on it... run the rpms up a few times this will help clear the carbon out.
    Fuel Injector Question?
with out seeing it is hard to tell but the 92 from day one had a slight shake to it. it was normal, when they first come of the truck I had 4 of them line up side by side and the all had the same shake they real didn't fix it until the 95 models as long it doesn't miss under load and it is smooth at a stop and the fuel millage is OK it is probably normal
There is a possibility that the egr valve is leaking when its closed. If you remove it you can clean the end of it off and try to suck air through the closed pintle. If you can, its faulty. Also apply vacuum to it at the vacuum port and be sure that it holds vacuum,if it does'nt, its faulty.Any leaks at the egr valve will cause a slight lean condition at idle.
We used to pinch off return hose for fuel and increase fuel pressure for just a moment if it smoothed out we would suspect injector. Make sure you don't have a grounding engine support. With gm product I would put a 2x4 on floor jack and put it under pan and put slight upward pressure on engine if it smoothed out then likely engine mount. GM has a high quality injector flush they use on one of there campaigns for problem injectors talk to a GM dealer

1991 12 valve Cummins Diesel-fuel injector pump and timing relation?

Injection pump was leaking had to remove to fix, after replacing it the engine seems to be missing, #3 injector when loosened it doesn't change the tune of the engine like the rest did when loosened. could it be out of time after the injector R%26amp;R?1991 12 valve Cummins Diesel-fuel injector pump and timing relation?I take it the engine ran fine before the r%26amp;r of the pump. However, if one cylinder is off then all would be off, but it never hurts to double check the timing. Although it sounds to me like you have lost #3 at the pump, but without seeing the problem its gonna be hard to diagnos. Is there any smoke, popping noise, engine running rough? A little more info would help. Also exactly what has been done. Did you make sure to time the engine before removal? Did you check fuel pressure to pump?

Where can i find some cheap fuel injectors?

i have a 2004 Saturn Ion Red-line. i recent bought a 2.8 diameter pulley for my supercharger.. im wonder if i can just put the pulley on its self or do i HAVE to change my injectors? what will happen if i don't change them... or were could i find some cheap ones?Where can i find some cheap fuel injectors? You could probably get them from Jegs or Summit. I don't recommend them without something to control the extra flow. Your gas mileage would probably become terrible without some aftermarket engine management and professional tuning. Another question would be if the rest of your fuel system was up to the task. If your fuel pump is not capable of pushing that extra flow, you will need to upgrade that, too. Before you do that, you need to check if the wires are thick enough. Higher flow pumps can use more juice. Melting a wire or popping a fuse in the middle of nowhere can leave you stranded.

What I would do is put the car on a dyno with a wideband o2 sensor (with your current setup) to see if you are running lean, and if you are, stop the dyno pull immediately and think about the fuel system upgrade. It is a large project, and not something you can bolt-on and expect to work well. Good luck.

Turn the key and listen for the fuel pump to make a humming noise.Could be the fuel pump is bad or weak
    put gas in the tank.
There is a good chance that you have a failed fuel pump.

This is not uncommon after running out of fuel. The causes are varied, but the two most common are -

    1) Debris in the bottom of the fuel tank moves about much more easily when there is limited fuel in the tank. This debris gets caught up in the suction part of the pump even though there is a strainer. This can cause the pump to fail completely or it can cause reduced volume and pressure.

    2) The second issue is related to the long-term effects of driving the vehicle a great deal of driving time (NOT mileage, but actual time) with limited fuel. The vehicle is engineered to use the mass of the fuel in the tank to absorb the heat generated by the pump (which is located inside the tank) and then dissipate that heat to the surrounding air. If there is a great deal of time driven with less than 1/4 tank of fuel, premature pump failure will result.

If this is the case, the tank will need to be removed, and the pump, strainer and a new fuel filter (another one) will be required, and the tank re-installed.

Proper diagnostics would require the testing of the fuel pressure and volume generated by the pump before any repairs are performed.
It pains me to say this, because I am an AVID Chevy fan, but their fuel pumps are crap. You're lucky it lasted this long. Chevy fuel pumps have an expiration date around 70K miles. You definately burned it out. I'm not sure about the year of your car. Sometimes, you can replace just the elec. mod on the pump if it burns out, but I'm pretty sure you'll have to replace the whole thing.

It sucks, because that's a pretty expensive part. On a mid-90's 5.7, it cost over $900 with labor. The newer ones aren't that bad, but still hundreds.

Next time, make sure you don't run your car out of gas. In fact, keeping it above a 1/4 of a tank is best. When you use the bottom portion of the gas in your tank, you're pumping up all the crap that's been in there for a long time, and it destroys the whole fuel system.

if neither of the sensors were showing in the scan of the ECU then have the fuel pump tested for the right pressure.

if there is a dusty greenish powder on the NEG battery terminal you have a ground problem find it and clean it.

if the crankshaft position sensor is exposed check it, make sure that all the teeth on the gear(looks like a gear wheel) are there or not chiped.

test the FIs. make sure they have the right ohm reading.

if the problem started after a gas fill up, you have water inside the tank or bad gas from the station.

or very remotely, if you put down the tank E85 or any Egas thinking it was regular gas. which I doubt.

or if the car was sitting down for a while without turning it on once in a while, say like if it was in the shop for a few months or not used for a few months.

What are the symptoms of a bad 02 sensor?

Hi i own a 2000 navigator 120k since i got it 4 months ago it shakes we changed fuel injectors changed coil on plugs and its atill shaky @ idle. Now we're beginning to think its the 02 sensors.. how can we tell what are the symptoms. My car is very shaky! what can it be.??What are the symptoms of a bad 02 sensor?yup i think the previous owner took the check engine light (bulb) off to rip you off. you should remove the instrument cluster and replace the bulb. but either way i think u can still do an OBD-II diagnostics. sometimes a bad 02 sensor causes a fuel smell from the exhaust, or you can just remove and check the sensor. if its really black %26quot;like charcoal%26quot; you might wana get it changed, also checked the wires on it and make sure they're not torn or anything.

a few other things you can do is clean the throttle body and the iac valve. or you might have a vacuum leak. vacuum leaks can cause it to shake on idle also. good luck,!!!!

The O2 sensor is a device that is used for fuel management. It does so by monitoring the voltage that is generated by the device. It starts with .05 volts as its reference and monitors the switching above and below that voltage. .051 to .950 is rich and .049 to .005 is lean. This switching should take place almost every second and the more the better. This is how it manages the fuel. A scanner with live data will allow you to monitor the O2 and see if it is functioning as it should. An Extreme lean or rich condition may cause a poor idle quality but I doubt that this is your problem. Strongly suggest that you perform a compression test to first determine if you have a weak cylinder. Good Luck

You would have a check engine lite if any sensor is bad. %26quot;thinking %26quot; is not the proper method to determine problem. NEVER replace any part 'till you KNOW the problem. go here and maybe learn a bit.

It sounds like it may be your O2 sensor because if it is not working properly, the engine cannot determine how much fuel to ingest which would cause rough idling.
Alot of the time shaky car is a misbalanced tire. Very simple fix and very cheap. Most shops will do it for under $50
