Has Walmart screwed me over or am I okay? Its only been a couple of days and the car drives fine, but i would rather know if my car is okay...Engine light came on after fuel injector cleaner was used.?when they run the fuel injector cleaner through the injectors it causes the mixture to be much richer than normal. what happens is that the oxygen sensor continually reads a rich mixture while they are running the injector cleaner through the car. because the oxygen sensor signal is always rich the powertrain control module thinks the oxygen sensor isn't working right (the signal should continually change from rich to lean to rich) or that there is a problem that is causing the engine to run continually rich. it doesn't 'know' that the cause is artificially induced by the fuel injector cleaner.
if the oxygen sensor hasn't been damaged by the fuel injector cleaner the light should go off after 3-5 days. I think it is unprofessional of them not to check the system with a scan tool and to clear the code before giving the car back to you. you can go back to them and ask them to erase the code with a generic scan tool. I would; then if the light comes back on you'll know the oxygen sensor was damaged by the fuel injector cleaner. if the light doesn't come back on then you'll know it was just because of the artificial enrichment from the fuel injector cleaner

The repair guys at Firestone said that wasn't possible, but every time I used that cheap Fuel Cleaner my check engine light came on and stays on. I've started to use a name brand and I NEVER get that problem anymore.

Engine light came on after fuel injector cleaner was used.?No they did not screw up your car, The light is on because the O2 sensors are sensing an oxygen rich exhaust, which is because of the injector cleaning they did. It will go off after a few days depending upo how often you drive and how long you drive for.... I say give it a week, if it doesnt go off by then, take it to a good honest mechanicThey're right about the oxygen sensor, however the engine light does not go off on all cars automaticly. Wait a week and if it doesn't go off take it to Auto Zone or Advance and let them clear the code. Then if it comes back on u may have to change a sensor. (It won't hurt the car to drive it like it is)Yeah I work at a shop and It sometimes takes a while to run that stuff through. A lot of cars I do a fuel tune on throw a check engine light. Just clear the codes and you are good.
