Fuel injector, did he con me?

Ok I have a fiat punto, and the other week I was driving and it just cut out, took it to a cheap garage my family knows, and he had it for about a week because he couldnt find the problem. he even changed the spark plugs and it still wouldnt start.

Today he rang saying its all done, he changed the spark plugs and the fuel injector and now its fine.

I spoke to my mate and she spoke to her boyfriend and he said fuel injectors wouldnt make the car cut out, and they are only 20 quid to buy, but hes one of them idiots who thinks he knows everything

is he right? or was the garage right??Fuel injector, did he con me?lol

ur mates mates a moron.

fuel injector puts fuel in the engine, if its not working, no more fuel.
Fuel injector, did he con me?
All four injectors stopped working at the same time? Rare.

Still reckon it was a fuse.

Fuel injector, did he con me?
Fuel injectors can fail (rare but does happen). If this happens, then fuel will not enter the system (engine) and so the engine will not run/start.

Usually the injectors just get dirty and so you can feel (not always) the drop in performance ....... this can be remedied by getting them professionally cleaned.

But if in your case the car wouldn't start - that makes it sound as though it was knackered!
If they were clogged up or leaking they sure would cause a car to cut off. They have to do with the fuel.
in order for the fuel injectors to cause the car to stop running, all of them would have to go at once. i highly doubt that ever injector went at the same time.i am guessing that if ithe engine was not recieving fuel that the first place to look would have been the fuel pump
a bad fuel injector can stop the car from running. if it's clogged or failed there will be no gas to the engine, therefore you cannot go.

there can be many other reasons, but this is one.
OK well the injectors will make a car not run i was an automotive professional . parts aren't usually where the cost is its the labor and an injector will cost u i would pay the guy and get rid of the fiat. buy a Toyota instead there hands down the best
fuel injectors can shut down a car, but the question is did you get conned. injector diagnosis is not to difficult with the right equipment. with him starting at a tune up (spark plugs) is a OK starting point and can sometimes save you money. if it hasn't been done in a while then consider the plug replacement as maintenance. now if the mechanic was any good it would not have taken him a week to find bad injectors, i recommend you find a mechanic that is highly familiar with fiat. talk to the mechanic and not the service adviser, it might cost a little more per hour of service but a mechanic that knows the common break downs of a fiat can save you money in the long run. im a Chevy tech and when i see a s-10 blazer come in the door with no rear tail lights or wiper i know to look for the broken ground wire under the drivers feet under the carpet, if someone else that wasn't good in Chevy looked at it it might take him 5 hours to find it and you would be charged for it. try to find a good fiat tech
The garage changed the injector.

The car now runs

It was the injector

End of story
Hi

If your car has multi-point injection and an injector fails then it will still run but it will be underpowered and misfire.

If, however, your car is fitted with single point injection then it only has one injector, and if this one injector fails then your car won't start or run at all.

SOOOOOOO....... the question is, does your car have 4 injectors, or does it only have 1 injector?

Just as a matter of interest, modern multi-point electronic injectors are a touch more expensive than 20 quid, no matter how good your trade discount!!

Cheers!

Check this link if you suspect the injectors.

To service an injector it's about 拢20 each. If the garage doesnt have the diagnostic equipment they may have sent them off for servicing/cleaning.
The Punto is fitted with the Fully Integrated Robotised Engine (FIRE) and uses a multipoint fuel injection system with the injectors working in pairs.

Injectors rarely fail on these engines, but they can dribble instead of spray and mess up the emissions figures.

What usually stops the engine dead is a blown injector feed fuse in the fuse box ( about 35 pence).

If he had the injectors serviced it would cost around 拢20 each , new injectors are around 拢40 each ( you should have had the old ones returned if they were replaced.

As the car 'Just cut out' I would go for the fuse theory, and at worst a control relay.
