Mysterious fuel issue with '97 Saab 900S?

Basically the car acts as if it's starving for fuel when it's idle or near idle RPM's.

Some additional info:

-Is the worst in the morning or when car has not been running for quite some time. 90% of the time it will sputter, sometimes it will stall out. 10% of the time it will start up and idle normally

-Also happens at stop lights/signs/anywhere I have to stop the car or slow it to around 20mph or lower. Have stalled it twice trying to accelerate from a stop sign.

-Typically when I try to accelerate after stopping the car will slowly accelerate (0-20mph in about 5 seconds) and then pick up and act normal.

-While driving 30mph or more, car acts fine. No sputtering or stalling.

-There is no black smoke coming from the exhaust (indicating an injector that's stuck open)

---

So far I've done the following to try and remedy the problem:

-Changed the fuel filter...Seemed to help moderately

-Added two bottles of fuel injector cleaner, plan on adding another soon. Again, both seemed to help moderately.

-I hope it's not a fuel pump and so far it doesn't seem to be indicated as the car drives normal at higher speeds and aside from sputtering/occasional stalling it runs fine.

Any help or advice would be appreciated. Cheers.Mysterious fuel issue with '97 Saab 900S?I suspect that the Idle Air Control valve is carboned up, and not working properly. Get some throttle body or carburetor cleaner, and clean up the IAC valve and the air bypass port very thoroughly, and that should do it.

Could be a cold start valve or the engine temperature sensor. You're going to have to take it to a mechanic anyway so you might as well get it over with. Don't just start guessing and changing parts. This is not going to be a serious problem. In the big picture, a fuel pump is hardly getting all wound up about. It's not going to be the pump anyway. It might just be the fuel filter which, unless it has been changed in the past 18 months or so, you can go and change by yourself. On a Saab though, I bet even that is a hassle. Maybe Obama will get you a free new car.
